What a Happiest New Year Celebration for Texas Exes & Friends!!
Just to add to the thrill of Our Time together, we are honored to hear of A most enlightening moment with the recent reunion of our President Jay Hartzell, meeting with Dr. Anthony Fauci, and the director of our Dell Medical Center-- Check The News!
We had fun Reviewing our Exciting Football challenges- including---
a particular joy in winning the Alamo!
Our greatest Joy, however, was to share the delightful Welcoming of our new head coach Sarkisian! He so proudly announced his delight to be with the best team at the best University-- supporting Longhorn fans in Austin, in Texas, in the U.S.A., And around the world! The orange lights were turned on this very night of our reunion!
It was also a treat to review Dr. Octavio Martinez´s advice for cultivating resilience during the pandemia! As head of our University´s Hogg Foundation for mental health, he gave us several tips on how to improve our resilience at this time. With this, our ability to adapt to, and/ or recover from change or misfortune, without long term negative effects is greatly increased!
Expanding your social network, and taking care of Yourself, were among his primary tips-
What an important moment to receive these!
Preparing for and Reviewing last years joy of a lovely Project Worldwide-- was a greatest joy as well! Bringing Treats, Toys, a Piñata, and a good meal-- to these prescious kids!

Dearest Texas Exes & Friends:
What Fun to Say Hello to You All -- At Such a Time as This-- when, despite the pandemic, Our University Is Hooking Horns Hard!
A Few of Our Highlights:
-- UT has found that early spread of coronavirus appears far greater than initially reported. The UT Austin consortium has found that patients with undiagnosed flu symptoms last winter who actually had COVID-19 were among thousands of undetected early cases of the virus! Former UT football player Johnny Sky Walker thinks he was one of the first people in Austin to get COVID-19 and his fears were confirmed by his doctor after a recent antibody test.
-- Researchers from U.T. are now developing a new sensor tells the difference between COVID-19 and the seasonal flu, and tests for both simultaneosly. Knowing whether a patient is sick with the flu or coronavirus is essential because it informs the doctors about proper treatment decisions and leads toward the appropriate infection control measures, potentially saving tax dollars and reducing work for medical personnel-- And Saving Lives!
-- Our Mexican Professor and researcher recently quoted by the NYT in an article that talks about the reshaping of education on this pandemic situation as poor regions around the world dont have internet are turning to television to reach students. "Ideally, one would have.. laptops and all these super fancy things at home" said Raissa Fabregas a professor of economics and public affairs at the University of Texas at Austin, who has studied educational television in Mexico. "But if you don´t have them, this is better than nothing." What a special attribute to the corona virus-- we will actually be extending virutal education possibilities to many more in the world!
-- After hearing Carlos Diaz exciting football news at our Zoom Reunion, here´s more news-- Quaterback Sam Ehlinger is celebrating his last season wearing Texas uniform. As one of the Longhorns best quarterbacks to play on the 40 Acres--He shared "My mission at the University of Texas was, and is, to leave the program better than it was when I got here" "That´s kind of my mindset with everything that I do in life. So if in December, or whenever the season ends, and if I´m leaving, and the program is better than it was when I first got here, three-and-a-half years ago, then I would say that was a success in my mind." Way to go Sam!!!
-- Thanking our terrific friend and speaker Alvaro Pastor for engaging us with enriching tips for furthering our understanding and giving extraordinary tips onHow to Get Back to Business--with outstanding tips on Thinking Straight. With 20 million cases of Covid today, and reviewing previous world disasters, the difficulties of adjusting to changes in ones standard of life-- quite drastic for many-- he suggested focusing on contention, relevance-- by offering a percentage of Your name brand to assist the needy during this present pandemia, and other needy causes, and so much more! He stressed the importance of the provocation of analysis and reflection--Truly, All present were enlightened!
-- Soon to be shared is more great news about our upcoming alliance with the ANCIC, other outstanding organizations and Project Worldwide-- So Critical At This Time!
-- Of Great Importance: All active alums, Please contact Carlos Diaz or Robert Sonnenberg if You would like to consider being the Texas Exes Mexico City Alumni President! This has been a most enriching and rewarding position-- allowing for priveleged reunions with top leaders in Mexico And Our University, great learning experiences through our outstanding speakers, and so much more! I so encourage You to take on this most valuable opportunity!
-- A Reminder to Reserve October 10th for a most thrilling OU game and BBQ which will be either at Pinche Gringo or through a Zoom reunion! Remember last years Fun at the Federación de Jardinería --- and look forward to this day with Hook ´em Horns Anticipation!
--A Must Mention-- Our Most Exciting was our celebration of Gilberto Gonzalez Jimenez -- our scholarship winner-- a more elaborate report coming soon!
-- Save the date -- September 8th, for our upcoming Texas Exes Zoom Reunion, 7 p.m.-- an Exciting Surprise Awaits!
-- And Last but Sooo not least-- Our new allegiance with the Association of Alumni Associations is building up in strength! I have been greatly honored to meet with different Alumni leaders from different Universities which will soon join our group. A most exciting opportunity is coming soon for as an outstanding fund raiser For Education in Mexico through a Wine Tasting Celebration like none before!
Texas Exes Mexico City, around the world, and friends-- Keep Up on The News that´s Changing The World!

Honoring Teresa Lozano Long
November 20, 2019
Dear Longhorns,
On Thursday, UT Distinguished Alumna Dr. Teresa Lozano Long will receive the prestigious National Humanities Medal from President Donald Trump during a ceremony at the White House. This is a fitting honor for one of the most dedicated philanthropists in our university’s — and state’s — history.
Terry came from humble beginnings, growing up in the small South Texas town of Premont. With her parents’ encouragement and support, she thrived throughout her academic career — ultimately earning a doctorate in health and physical education at UT. She, along with her husband Joe, has championed generations of UT students — funding numerous scholarships and endowments, including a transformative gift that led to the naming of the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies.
