By WIkipedia: Current president Felipe Calderón made abating drug-trafficking one of the top priorities of his administration. In a very controversial move, Calderón deployed military personnel to cities where drug cartels operate. While this move has been criticized by the opposition parties and the National Human Rights Commission, its effects have been praised by the Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs as having obtained "unprecedented results..." with "many important successes". President Calderón at Reception for US President George W. Bush on March 13, 2007:
.. both governments share the aim of a safe border, adding that the Mexican government is doing its part by restoring safety in the streets and combating drug trafficking. However, President Calderón concluded, this struggle requires the collaboration and active participation of Mexico’s neighbors, because unless the US reduces the DEMAND FOR DRUGS on its territory, it will be extremely difficult to reduce supply in this country."

The statement is not anti-cop... Honestly, whatever cops get paid in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, it isn't enough. Still, it's not just a stereotype that they love donuts - get one for the cop in your life, or wear it for when their eyes stray. Bad Cop, No Donut.

Mexico: Essential information
Hard to believe it is next door to the US, which controls the economy. A land of contrasts, Mexico is one of the fastest growing economies in the world, yet still very much a developing nation. Extreme wealth and severe poverty coexist in a context of indigenous, Spanish and, increasingly American, cultural influences.
